AG Field Expands in MI and SC; MO Governor Names New AG

  • Michigan – Republican private-practice attorney Matt DePerno has filed paperwork to run again for Michigan AG, following his 2022 loss in the general election to incumbent AG Dana Nessel. He joins a growing list of candidates for the seat, including Doug Lloyd, Karen McDonald, Kevin Kijewski, and Mark Totten. AG Nessel is term-limited.
  • Missouri – Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe appointed Catherine Hanaway as the new Missouri AG, effective September 8, 2025. Hanaway, a former U.S. Attorney and Missouri House Speaker, will be the first woman to serve as Missouri AG. She will replace Andrew Bailey, who is resigning to serve as the co-deputy director of the FBI.
  • South Carolina – David Pascoe, a longtime prosecutor and former Democrat, launched his 2026 campaign for the Republican nomination for South Carolina AG. Stephen Goldfinch, a Republican State Senator, has also announced he is running for the Republican nomination for AG. AG Alan Wilson is running for governor.
