  • A group of seven Democratic AGs, through the Consortium of Privacy Regulators, sent a letter to U.S. Senate leadership opposing a federal ban against state-level regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
  • In the letter, the AGs argue that an amendment to the federal budget reconciliation bill—which would impose a 10-year prohibition on states from enforcing state laws or regulations addressing AI and automated decision-making systems—would stop states from preventing known privacy and other harms associated with AI, deprive consumers of reasonable protections, and leave AI largely unregulated in the face of Congressional inaction.
  • The AGs urge Congress to reject the AI moratorium language in the budget reconciliation bill.
