The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment - Oil and Gas Commission (“Commission”) addressed an application for the establishment of a lithium compensation structure for Saltwerx, LLC (“Saltwerx”).
Saltwerx’s application is stated to concern lithium to be produced from the Pine Brine Production Unit.
An Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment ("E&E") news release states that the Pine Brine Production Unit encompasses more than 56,245 acres in south Arkansas.
Bromine and other elements have been extracted from brine for many years. Lithium is an additional element extracted from the brine. It is regulated under the Arkansas Brine Production Act and in accordance with the Commission’s Arkansas Brine Production Regulatory Program.
Saltwerx’s application requested an approval of an additional lithium payment of 2.5% of the lithium carbonate in addition to a brine fee already established by law.
E&E Secretary Shane Khoury is quoted in the Department news release as stating:
…Arkansas is poised to become a national leader in lithium production, and today’s approval marks another step in that direction…We’re advancing a model that balances innovation, stewardship, and equitable economic opportunity for landowners and industry alike.
