  • Massachusetts AG Andrea Joy Campbell co-led a bipartisan coalition of 47 AGs in urging major search engines and payment platforms to take stronger action against the spread of nonconsensual, computer-generated intimate imagery, commonly referred to as “deepfakes” or “deepfake pornography.”
  • In a letter to search engines, the AGs highlighted the harms caused by deepfakes and urged the companies to implement safeguards, such as user warnings and redirection away from harmful content. In a letter to payment platforms, the AGs called for removal of payment services from sellers offering deepfake pornography tools or content.
  • This effort follows previous bipartisan AG initiatives to protect consumers online, including a letter from the National Association of Attorneys General to Congress, urging action to combat the use of artificial intelligence in the exploitation of children.
