On February 11, two senior leaders at the CFPB reportedly announced their resignations in reaction to the instructions given by the newly appointed Acting Director, Russell Vought, to cease operations and for all staff to stay home.

Both the Assistant Director of Supervision and the Assistant Director of Enforcement at the Bureau sent emails to their teams announcing their resignations Tuesday morning. Both cited the stand-down order as motivating their resignations, with one stating, “I don’t believe in these conditions I can effectively serve in my role, which is protecting American consumers[.]” A spokesperson for the Office of Management and Budget, which Mr. Vought also leads, stated that both Assistant Directors had been placed on administrative leave prior to their resignation announcements.
