Metropolitan Planning Organization for Central Arkansas (“Metroplan”) announced Round 1 of Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (“CPRG”) Central Arkansas Pass-Through Grants.
Metroplan had been a successful lead applicant for a United States Environmental Protection Agency CPRG award of $99,999,999.00.
Coalition members along with Metroplan included:
- City of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
- Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission.
The Grants are authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act and intended to facilitate the development of the implementation of plans to reduce greenhouse gasses while benefitting low-income and disadvantaged communities.
Metroplan describes eligible projects for Round 1 as including:
- Green Network
- Land acquisition/preservation.
- Land restoration.
- Tree planting.
- Streetlight Conversion
- Replacement of conventional (high pressure sodium) streetlights with LED bulbs/fixtures
- Transportation Efficiency
- Rebates for fleet vehicle replacement with EVs and EV charging infrastructure.
An application workshop is scheduled for December 4th.
An application deadline is February 21, 2025.
The Metroplan announcement also references a Transportation Alternatives Program and a Central Arkansas Energy and Environment Innovation Plan.
