The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) published a document titled:
Requirements and Best Practices for the Collection and Analysis of Samples for the PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (“Best Practices”).
The Best Practices are intended to provide assistance to the regulated community addressing the requirements found in the Safe Drinking Water Act National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (“NPDWR”) standards for PFAS that were promulgated in 2024.
The NPDWR specifically addresses Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (collectively, “PFAS”).
The Best Practices document notes that:
…In support of the initial monitoring required by the rule (to be completed by April 26, 2027) and the ongoing compliance monitoring thereafter, this document provides requirements and guidance for the collection, handling, and analysis of samples.
EPA states that the PFAS Rule requires:
- Use of methods approved under 40 CFR 141.901 during the compliance monitoring period.
- Use of methods approved under 40 CFR 141.901 or Appendix A to Subpart C of Part 141 during initial monitoring.
The Best Practices document addresses:
