The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is seeking comments on a proposed new rule that allows contributors to request the agency redact their personal information from reports disclosed on its website. Under the proposed rule, if a contributor shows there is a reasonable probability that disclosure of their address, occupation, or employer would subject them to threats, harassment, or reprisals, the FEC will redact their information and notify the filing committee of changes to the report. Future contributions would require redaction by a committee when notified by the FEC or contributor. The full text of the proposed rule can be found here.
