On May 27, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas granted a motion for attorneys’ general fees and costs against a defendant incurred in contempt proceedings for violations of a previous stipulated permanent injunction order and monetary judgment related to billions of illegal robocalls. The court awarded the eight plaintiff states (Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, and Texas) a total of $588,608.30 in attorney’s fees, along with additional costs, for a total award of $601,763.
The court also ordered the implementation of four modifications to the stipulated order, which included permanent bans on telephony services, certain business relationships, deceptive representations, along with the dissolution of entities operated by the defendant. The plaintiffs were ordered to submit these modifications in a proposed order by June 6.
