On March 24, 2025, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched its EDGAR Next platform. All individuals and entities that make SEC filings (SEC Filers) must enroll on the platform by September 15, 2025, to avoid disruption in making filings with the SEC.
EDGAR Next is replacing the SEC’s current EDGAR filer management system, and requires all current SEC Filers, including individuals required to make SEC filings pursuant to Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (Section 16 Filers), enroll and make SEC filings through this platform by September 15, 2025. Enrollment opened on March 24, 2025, so SEC Filers can begin the enrollment process now, well in advance of the September deadline.
The basic steps for enrolling SEC Filers on the EDGAR Next platform are as follows:
- Create an account at www.login.gov with multifactor authentication. The email address used to create the account will be visible on EDGAR Next.
- Use these login credentials to access the EDGAR Next platform.
- Select “Manual Enrollment” to enroll one or more SEC Filers by providing each filer’s Central Index Key (CIK), CIK confirmation code (CCC) and Passphrase.
- Provide the name, email address, business address and business telephone number for each individual who will be an administrator on each SEC Filer’s account. This email address must match the email address of the administrator’s login.gov account. Additional administrators can be added after the initial enrollment.
- Select an annual confirmation date for each SEC Filer. Each year, an administrator must log in and complete an annual confirmation on the EDGAR Next dashboard by this date.
Bulk enrollment for up to 100 SEC Filers is also available, which requires the upload of a CSV table that includes the CIK, CCCs, Passphrases, and other information for each filer. This spreadsheet can be downloaded from the EDGAR Next platform and contains specific instructions.
Each SEC Filer may have up to 20 account administrators, who (i) manage the filer’s account and change individuals’ access permissions for each filer’s account, (ii) perform the annual confirmation, (iii) delegate authority to file to other EDGAR accounts; and (iv) generate or create custom CCCs. Each SEC Filer also may have up to 500 users, who can make submissions on behalf of the filer and view CCCs, and 20 technical administrators.
Once an SEC Filer is enrolled in the EDGAR Next platform, all of their SEC filings must be made through this platform. SEC Filers should confirm with their current third-party filing service providers that each provider is able to make filings through the platform and to determine the best process for making filings through the platform.
Section 16 Filers can only be enrolled once on EDGAR Next, so individuals who make relevant filings in connection with more than one entity should coordinate with each entity to determine who should enroll them on the platform.
We suggest that SEC Filers review their filing calendars and find a time to enroll that will minimize disruption between March 24, 2025, and September 15, 2025.
In addition, beginning on March 24, 2025, all Form IDs will be submitted through an electronic application on the EDGAR Next platform.
