Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants: Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment Announces Awards to Small Cities/Counties

The Energy Office of the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (“E&E”) issued an August 13th news release announcing recipients of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (“EECBG”) program for small cities and counties.

The EECBG grants are stated to total over $1.7 million.

Fifteen Arkansas energy efficiency and conservation projects were selected. The stated purpose of the EECBG is to assist communities striving to:

  • Reduce energy consumption.
  • Lower costs.
  • Advance energy efficient practices.

The EECBG program is stated to provide federal funding from the United States Department of Energy to local governments to:

…develop, implement, and manage energy efficiency and conservation projects.

Mitchell Simpson, Deputy Director, Energy Office, is quoted as stating:

…We are thrilled to partner with these 14 Arkansas communities to implement projects that will deliver tangible benefits, from cost savings to a healthier environment…These grants empower our small cities and counties to lead the way in energy innovation and build a more efficient future for all Arkansans.

The projects are stated to have been selected based on potential for significant energy savings, environmental impact, and community benefit.
