Environmental Group News: MS4 General Permit (Small Municipal Stormwater Systems) Reissued

The General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater from Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4 general permit), which protects waters of the state from urban stormwater runoff through municipal separate stormwater sewer systems, is currently set to expire on January 8, 2016. 

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection ("DEEP") has issued a tentative decision to reissue the MS4 general permit, without modification, with an expiration date of June 30, 2017.  A revised MS4 general permit is expected to be issued and become effective on July 1, 2017.  Re-registration for the MS4 general permit without modifications is not required, although current permit holders must continue to comply with the expired permit.    

Written comments, which may be considered by DEEP before making a final decision, may be submitted to Christopher Stone, by January 10, 2016 (note: after the current MS4 general permit expires), by electronic mail to chris.stone@ct.gov or by post to the below address:

The DEEP Commissioner may conduct a public hearing if it is determined that the public interest would be best served thereby, or upon receipt of a petition signed by at least 25 people.
