The report also provides information on ESMA's operations, budget and structure. ESMA is charged with enhancing the protection of investors and promoting stable and orderly financial markets, with various roles under legislation such as EMIR and MiFID. The report states that ESMA has made significant steps in realizing its mission by assessing risks to investors, markets and financial stability, completing a single rulebook for EU financial markets, promoting supervisory convergence and supervising credit rating agencies and trade repositories.
