Facebook speaks out on employers asking for — or requiring — passwords

Following up on our post yesterday on the disturbing practice of employers requesting — and sometimes requiring — both employees and prospective employees to hand over social networking passwords — Facebook has something to say about this.

In a company blog post today, Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan said, “This practice undermines the privacy expectations and the security of both the user and the user’s friends. It also potentially exposes the employer who seeks this access to unanticipated legal liability.”
