On August 19, the FDIC announced that its board approved a proposed rule to amend signage requirements for banks’ digital deposit channels and ATMs. The proposal aims to reduce implementation issues, reduce burden, and address potential consumer confusion on signage requirements for digital deposit channels and ATMs. Specifically, the FDIC is proposing to clarify and provide greater flexibility with respect to the requirements regarding: the FDIC official digital sign design; display of signage on digital deposit-taking channels; and the display of signage on ATMs.

As previously covered by InfoBytes, the FDIC had proposed amending its signage requirements, with compliance deadlines extended from January to May (covered here). The FDIC now seeks to provide greater clarity on the sign design, the placement of signage on digital deposit channels, and ATM requirements. The agency invites public comment on all aspects of the proposed rule, including its scope and specific requirements, and will extend the compliance date for January 1, 2027. The rulemaking would also cover FDIC official signs, advertisement of membership, false advertising, misrepresentation of insured status, and misuse of the FDIC’s name or logo.
