A memo issued yesterday by the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget directed federal agencies to pause financial assistance payments or reimbursements, effective at 5 p.m. today. However, this afternoon, a federal district court judge temporarily blocked enforcement of the memo until Feb. 3, allowing the government and opposing parties more time to present their arguments.

For now, nonprofits and others receiving federal financial assistance do not need to take any immediate action. It will be important to monitor updates from the federal district court and any subsequent appeals.
