Key provisions of the UK's Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 will come into force on 6 April 2025

What's happening?

The UK government has published the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2025.

As a result, key provisions of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (the “DMCC Act”), including those addressing drip pricing, fake reviews and enforcement, will come into force on 6 April 2025, despite the lack of finalised guidance.

For more information on the new rules and enforcement regime, please see our previous articles on this topic, which can be found here.

What should you do?

Whilst the regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority, has confirmed they will focus early enforcement on only the most egregious consumer law breaches, all consumer-facing businesses should take action now to ensure they comply with the new rules from 6 April.

As a first step, businesses should audit the existing ways in which they interact with consumers to assess potential areas of non-compliance. Our consumer law specialists can help; please contact us to discuss how we can support your business during this process.

Be sure to monitor our ongoing DMCC Act publications, in which we will chart all key updates in this space.
