H.B. 177 has been submitted into the 2025 General Session of the Utah Legislature addressing recycling of glass.
Contents of the Bill include:
- Defines terms.
- Requires the Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (division) to study how to increase the amount of used glass for recycling.
- Requires the division to report findings and recommendations to the Utah Legislature, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Interim Committee; and
- Provides a repeal date for the study.
Terms defined in the Bill include:
- Glass cullet.
- Material recovery facility.
- Multi-stream recycling.
- Recyclable material.
- Single-stream recycling.
The statewide study of glass recycling is required to address:
- An inventory of current glass recycling methods.
- Areas in the state that may benefit from increased glass recycling.
- Strategies for increasing the amount of glass collected by various types of facilities.
