SAF: Understanding Lifecycle Emissions -

The Executive Summary to the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Net Zero Roadmaps1 acknowledges that aviation is “one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize” but notes that the International Civil Aviation Organization acknowledged “international aviation’s contribution to 14 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 13: “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.”” As set forth in The Energy and New Fuels Infrastructure Roadmap, IATA’s central scenario “requires [Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)] to represent 80-90% of aviation fuel use in 2050, reducing aviation emissions by 62%.”
