According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were all up for the month of July. Year over year, only FDCPA complaints have decreased, and not by much.
WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in July as follows:
- 788 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 18.9% increase from June;
- 362 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 4.9% increase from June;
- 273 TCPA cases filed, representing a 6.2% increase from June; and
- 26,963 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 10.8% increase from June.
Filings are mostly up compared to January 1 to July 31, 2024 (FCRA +23.0%, FDCPA -5.3%, TCPA +52.7%, CFPB +103.9%).
