Maine AG Selected by Lawmakers for Fourth Term

Legislators in Maine have selected incumbent Democratic AG Aaron Frey to serve another two-year term as attorney general. This will be AG Frey’s last, as Maine attorneys general are limited to four terms.
Maine lawmakers praised AG Frey—who faced two potential challengers to his position—as someone who “understands what it’s like to run a small law firm” and “what it’s like to represent average citizens in the legal system.”
In Maine, the attorney general is selected by the state legislature in a joint session every two years. Maine is the only state to select AGs in this manner, which lawmakers claim allows the state to “select very pragmatic and practical people for that office.”
