Maine Employers: Paid FML Preparation

While Maine employers are still waiting for the Department of Labor to finalize regulations related to the recently instituted Paid FML program, there are steps that employers should take now.

Specifically, employers should be aware that the Maine Department of Labor has made available the required poster informing employees of their rights under the recently implemented Paid FML statute. Employers cannot create their own posting unless the Department of Labor approves it and must use this form.

Under 26 M.R.S. § 850-I, employers must post the notice in English and in each language other than English, which is the primary language of three or more employees of that workplace, if such notice is available from the Department of Labor. The posting should be made as soon as possible but no later than January 1, 2025.

A copy of the English version of the notice is available here.
