According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were all up for the month. Only Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) filings were down for May.
WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in May as follows:
- 667 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 10.1% increase from April;
- 387 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 15.5% increase from April;
- 199 TCPA cases filed, representing a 15.3% decrease from April; and
- 23,429 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 8.8% increase from April.
Filings are mostly up compared to January 1 to May 31, 2024 (FCRA +12.6%, FDCPA -9.1%, TCPA +39.4%, CFPB +97.6%).
