New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand recently announced the award of $140 million to expand public broadband infrastructure in six New York regions through New York’s ConnectALL Office.
The awards include:
- Western New York: $29.9 million to connect all 14,447 homes and businesses in the City of Jamestown.
- Finger Lakes: $11 million to connect the most rural areas of Orleans County.
- Mohawk Valley: $30 million to build 298 miles of fiber and connect over 4,000 locations in Schoharie County.
- Central New York: $26 million to establish CNYNET, Inc. which will connect 6,671 locations in Cayuga County and Cortland County.
- North Country: $13.1 million to build an additional 114 miles of fiber in Franklin County, a portion of which will be transferred to the St Regis Mohawk territory.
- Mid-Hudson: $29.9 million to build 253 miles of fiber and connect over 22,000 homes in Sullivan County.
The newest grants will help build over 1,200 miles of new public broadband infrastructure, which will connect an additional 60,000 homes to New York State’s broadband infrastructure. Through public-private partnerships, the ConnectAll Office supports over 2,000 miles of broadband infrastructure within New York State, connecting over 87,000 homes throughout New York State.
