On March 28, 2025, the New York State Senate Elections Committee met and voted to approve seven bills.  Among the bills considered and approved by the committee are:

  • S3596-A, bill alerting the voter registration form to include a statement that New York State has a closed primary and only enrolled members of a party may vote in that party’s primary elections;
  • S7700, a bill altering the time for certain village election designations and nominations when the village election is conducted on Election Day; and
  • S7962, a bill to shorten the period for candidates to decline a party nomination after losing the primary election of another party.

The 2025 state legislative session is scheduled to end on June 12.  These and other election proposals may be considered before the 2025 session concludes.  As the end of session approaches, we will continue to monitor these and other bills and provide updates when appropriate.
