Below is the twenty third weekly update on the status of proposed state privacy legislation in 2025. As always, the contents provided below are time-sensitive and subject to change.

What’s New

The big news this week comes out of Vermont where Governor Phil Scott signed the Vermont Age-Appropriate Design Code Act (S.69) into law.

In other children’s privacy news, New York’s S.4505 (social media warning labels) passed the Senate on June 12. The New York Senate adjourned as scheduled on June 12. However, the Assembly reportedly extended its session to June 17.

Meanwhile, Louisiana’s legislature passed HB 570 (app stores). This is the third legislature – following Utah and Texas – to pass an app store bill this year.

Turning to consumer data privacy bills, Michigan’s bill (SB 359) was voted out of committee on June 12 and referred to the Senate floor.

Finally, last week we reported that the Nevada legislature passed SB 63 (children’s privacy). However, it appears that there was a late amendment in the Assembly and the bill was unable to repass the Senate prior to the legislature closing.
