Trump to end ‘green energy’ subsidies via new action
Deseret News – July 7
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to phase out federal subsidies for green energy like wind and solar farms, citing unsustainability for the grid and too much reliance on foreign adversaries. The order directs the Treasury Department secretary to take all action deemed necessary and appropriate to strictly enforce the termination of the clean electricity production and investment tax credits within 45 days of enactment of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” passed last week in a marathon session of Congress. Trump’s order is slated to end all pending projects unless there has been substantial construction that has taken place.

California budget leaves grid reliability programs in limbo, advocates say
Utility Dive – July 2
Governor Gavin Newsom approved a $321 billion state budget that cut about $18 million in previously appropriated funding from grid reliability programs and deferred decisions about future spending on the programs to a later date, clean energy advocates said. The affected programs, Demand Side Grid Support and Distributed Electricity Backup Assets, are designed to shore up the state’s energy resources by providing on-call emergency supply or load reduction resources during extreme weather events such as heat waves or other grid emergencies.

$850M California port project presses on despite opponents’ push to rescind federal funding
Engineering News-Record – July 2
Offshore wind energy opponents are urging federal officials to revoke a $427-million U.S. government grant awarded by the Biden administration to expand and upgrade Redwood Marine Terminal in Humboldt County to partly accommodate approved floating wind power construction—but local officials are proceeding with the proposed $850-million infrastructure development. Groups aligned with the National Offshore Wind Opposition Alliance petitioned U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy last month to rescind the 2024 grant to the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation, and Conservation District in Eureka.
How a microgrid transformed a California senior center into a resiliency hub
Microgrid Knowledge – July 3
From wildfires to earthquakes, heat waves, and floods, California is no stranger to climate-related natural disasters. In Lake County, about 100 miles northwest of Sacramento, a new microgrid is powering a resiliency hub that helps the surrounding community weather those storms. Located at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center in Lucerne, the off-grid microgrid provides up to 72 hours of uninterrupted power, even during extreme weather or grid disruptions.
