On November 22, the SEC released its enforcement results for fiscal year 2024, reporting $8.2 billion in financial remedies from 583 enforcement actions — a 26 percent decrease in total actions compared to the previous year — but a record year in annual remedies. The enforcement actions included 431 stand-alone cases, 93 follow-on administrative proceedings, and 59 actions against issuers delinquent in making required filings.

Over half of the financial remedies, $4.5 billion, came from a major securities fraud case, contributing to the highest disgorgement and prejudgment interest amounts on record. The SEC targeted a variety of violations, including recordkeeping breaches, marketing rule non-compliance, and whistleblower protection violations. The SEC distributed $345 million to harmed investors and received a record 45,130 tips, complaints and referrals. Whistleblower tips totaled over 24,000 alone and awards totaled $255 million.
