On April 18, the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) announced that eight state regulators have formed the Consortium of Privacy Regulators to enforce privacy laws collaboratively and protect consumers. This bipartisan group includes state attorneys general from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, New Jersey, and Oregon (and the California CPPA). The consortium will hold regular meetings and coordinate enforcement when appropriate based on the states’ common interests.

The regulators signed a memorandum of understanding outlining their goals, including facilitation of discussions on privacy law developments and shared priorities, focusing on consumer protection. The announcement also noted the regulators aim to share expertise and resources, and coordinate efforts in investigating potential violations of law. Despite variations among the member states’ privacy laws, the announcement noted each law shares fundamental features to protect consumer privacy such as the right to access, delete and stop the sale of personal information, allowing for coordinated enforcement efforts.
