Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.
HEADLINES
- Republicans are reportedly prepared to move to change Senate rules to expedite approval of President Donald Trump’s nominees.
- Trump says he is considering deploying the National Guard to more cities in addition to Washington, D.C.
- The Senate Commerce Committee will examine Trump’s AI Action Plan released this summer.
HOUSE
- The House will be in session today through Thursday, taking up its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
- The Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions will hold a hearing tomorrow on the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) with Director Andrea Gacki.
- Also tomorrow, the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy will hold a hearing on appliance and buildings policies.

SENATE
- The Senate will resume consideration of the NDAA, and Republicans plan to vote to allow “en bloc” confirmations of multiple agency nominees in one vote.
- The Commerce Subcommittee on Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness will hold a hearing Wednesday on the administration’s artificial intelligence strategy with White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios.
- Also Wednesday, the Banking Committee will hold a hearing on deposit insurance reform.

WHITE HOUSE
- Trump is considering sending the National Guard to additional cities to address crime, following the current deployment in Washington.
- Today, Trump will speak at the second meeting of his Religious Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible in Washington.
- Thursday, Trump will commemorate the 9/11 attacks at the Pentagon and attend the Yankees versus Tigers baseball game at Yankee Stadium.
