On June 16, 2025, President Trump issued an
Executive Order setting a 7.5% Section 232 tariff on U.K.-origin cars which are imported under the 100,000 quota, per the announced trade deal with the U.K. Combined with the current most-favored nation status duty, the total duties and tariffs on U.K.-origin vehicles imported under the quota will be 10%, which will take effect seven days following publication of the Executive Order in the Federal Register.
The Executive Order also declares that automotive parts from the U.K. to be used in U.K.-made vehicles will also face a total tariff of 10%, inclusive of MFN rates. These reduced tariffs for auto parts will take effect once the Harmonized Tariff Schedule is modified via publication in the Federal Register, which must occur within seven days after publication of the above first Federal Register notice.
Finally, the Executive Order removes reciprocal and Section 232 aluminum and steel derivative tariffs on civil aircraft parts and other items that fall under the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft.
Section 232 tariffs on aluminum and steel articles and derivatives outside the civil aviation space remain the same, but the Executive Order states that the the Secretary, in consultation with the United States Trade Representative, will determine whether, and if so how, to establish a tariff-rate quota for these articles.
