United States Department of Energy (“DOE”) Secretary, Chris Wright, announced on February 5th the DOE’s priorities under the Trump Administration.
Secretary Wright entitled the initiative:
Unleashing the Golden Era of American Energy Dominance.
The transmittal was in the form of Secretary Wright’s first Secretarial Order, noting by way of introduction:
- A highly energized society can bring health, wealth, and opportunity for all.
- DOE has the opportunity to promote:
- Energy abundance.
- Demonstrate leadership in scientific and technological innovation.
- Steward and strengthen our weapons stockpiles.
- Meet Cold War legacy waste clean-up commitments.
- United States must expand energy production and reduce energy costs for American families and businesses.
- Innovation and technological breakthroughs, including:
- Accelerating the work of DOE’s National Laboratories.
- Energy infrastructure should be built and permitted along with the removal of barriers to progress.
DOE is instructed to take the following initial actions:
- Advance Energy Addition, Not Subtraction.
- Unleash American Energy Innovation.
- Return to Regular Order on LNG Exports.
- Promote Affordability and Consumer Choice in Home Appliances.
- Refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
- Modernize America’s nuclear stockpile.
- Unleash Commercial Nuclear Power in the United States.
- Strengthen Grid Reliability and Security.
- Streamline Permitting and Identify Undue Burdens on American Energy.
