Recently, former House Majority Leader Jefferson Moss (R-Saratoga Springs) resigned from his seat in the legislature and position in leadership to take a spot in Governor Cox’s cabinet as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. This spurred a race to replace Rep. Moss as House Majority Leader. Rep. Karianne Lisonbee (R-Clearfield), who was serving as House Majority Whip, and Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise), who was serving as House Majority Assistant Whip, both decided to run to replace Rep. Moss as House Majority Leader. With both Rep. Lisonbee and Rep. Snider running for Majority Leader, this opened their previously held positions as House Majority Whip and House Majority Assistant Whip for election within the Republican caucus.

Running to replace Rep. Lisonbee as House Majority Whip was:

  • Rep. Jeff Burton (R-Spanish Fork)
  • Rep. Candice Pierucci (R-Herriman)
  • Rep. Jordan Tuescher (R-South Jordan)
  • Rep. Ryan Wilcox (R-North Ogden)

Running to replace Rep. Snider as House Majority Assistant Whip was:

  • Rep. Bridger Bolinder (R-Grantsville)
  • Rep. Cory Maloy (R-Lehi)
  • Rep. Karen Peterson (R-Clinton)
  • Rep. Rex Shipp (R-Parowan)

On Tuesday, June 3, the House Republican caucus convened to elect their new leadership. Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise) was elected as House Majority Leader. Rep. Snider has focused much of his legislative career on issues related to water and water conservation, natural resources, mining and critical infrastructure, and issues related to public safety. Rep. Candice Pierucci (R-Herriman) was elected as House Majority Whip. Rep. Pierucci has focused much of her time and attention on issues related to families with particular attention to pregnant women and newborns, school choice efforts, and foreign influence in Utah. Rep. Bridger Bolinder (R-Grantsville) was elected as House Majority Assistant Whip. Rep. Bolinder has spent much of his time on mineral production, transient room tax modifications, and brine amendments.
