On December 19, the IRS published an updated mileage reimbursement rate for 2025: $0.70 per mile, a three cent increase from the 2024 rate. The rate applies to all vehicles, electric and gas alike.

Employers should apply the updated IRS rate when calculating employees’ mileage reimbursement. While employers may come up with a different system to reimburse employees for the work-related use of their personal vehicles, the Labor Commissioner has opined that the IRS mileage reimbursement rate raises a presumption that employees are properly reimbursed for work-related use of their vehicles.
